2012 Dodge Charger with Uconnect® Touch Wins Edmunds.com Breakthrough Technology Award

"The new 2012 Dodge Charger with its exclusive state-of-the-art Uconnect® Touch vehicle information and entertainment system is the winner of Edmunds.com’s Breakthrough Technology Award for 2012.

Each year, Edmunds.com recognizes a vehicle that sets the standard for intuitive, practical and affordable automotive technology.

“We’re very proud Edmunds.com is recognizing the 2012 Dodge Charger with its Breakthrough Technology award,” said Reid Bigland, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dodge brand. “The Charger’s Uconnect Touch system with the 8.4-inch touch screen is really world class, intuitive and easy to use. When you combine it with Charger’s available eight-speed transmission that gets best-in-class fuel economy of up to 31 miles per gallon on the highway, the 2012 Dodge Charger really does offer the latest high-tech features, all at a tremendous value, wrapped up with iconic styling.”

“The Dodge Charger embodies some of the most modern technology available in a car today, and it’s available in a vehicle that’s within the budget of average consumers,” said Scott Oldham, editor-in-chief of Edmunds.com. “Much of the technology, for example, is standard on the 2012 Dodge Charger SXT, which has a base price of $28,495 MSRP. And since the Charger is a sensible sedan, the package is that much more attractive.”

Dodge Charger’s Uconnect Touch illustrates tangible results from the company’s extensive research and development. During the development of the all-new 2011 Dodge Charger and its all-new Uconnect Touch infotainment system, Chrysler Group engineers visited, observed and recorded feedback from more than 4,100 owners of the best vehicles from Europe, Asia and North America to see how they interacted with their in-vehicle audio and navigation systems, as well as find out what they really want and need from a multimedia and infotainment system. The result: four high-quality next-generation infotainment models that are easy to use and simplify how passengers interact with different radio, media, climate control and navigation technologies.

The Uconnect Touch system offered on the Dodge Charger includes two 4.3-inch and two 8.4-inch in-dash touchscreen models with redundant manual controls for items including climate control, fan speed, radio tuning and radio volume. The Uconnect Touch 8.4 and 8.4N models feature the segment’s largest touchscreen display at 8.4-inches. The system also includes steering wheel mounted controls for features, including voice recognition for the award-winning Garmin navigation system and SiriusXM satellite radio. In addition, innovative SiriusXM Travel Link provides a host of data services, including fuel prices, weather forecasts, sport scores and schedules and movie listings. " [Continue reading...]

Chrysler to Begin Natural-Gas Truck Sales to Fleets in 2012

"Chrysler Group LLC, the automaker controlled by Fiat SpA, plans to begin selling natural gas- powered pickups in the U.S. this year, said Sergio Marchionne, chief executive officer of both automakers.

'We are going to bring them here, there is no doubt,' Marchionne said yesterday in an interview at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Sales will be, 'limited at first. It depends upon the distribution network.'

Fiat, which owns 58.5 percent of Auburn Hills, Michigan- based Chrysler, has engines using compressed natural gas in Europe. Chrysler executives have said they plan to begin deliveries of vehicles using the technology to the U.S. by 2017."  [Continue reading...]

Detroit Motor Show 2012: Chevrolet

Detroit Motor Show 2012: Chevrolet

"One journalist from a US motoring magazine was walking round the Detroit Motor Show asking every company boss, designer and engineer how the industry should go about attracting young people back into cars.

I was there at Detroit in 2000 when GM’s Pontiac division launched the Aztek, voted by Daily Telegraph readers as the ugliest car of all time. Brand manager Don Butler was feted like a rock star by a crowd of students supposedly moshing with joy at the launch of this stupendously ill-conceived SUV. This was the motor industry trying (and failing) to attract young people 11 years ago, so it's no wonder they haven’t come back in the meantime."  [Continue reading...]

Chrysler unveils new Dodge Dart at Detroit Auto Show

Story Image

"If the new Dodge Dart sells anything like the original, Chrysler will have the small-car hit it needs.

The reinvented compact, unveiled at the Detroit auto show Monday, is nothing like its predecessor from the 1960s and ‘70s. But Chrysler is counting on the Dart, and its zippy name, to help it sell more small cars and continue its recent revival.

Instead of the somewhat boxy lines of the original, the new Dart has the sleek stance of a modern muscle-car, with a short hood, long roof and slightly flared fenders. And it’s based on the frame and suspension of a crisp-handling Alfa Romeo hatchback brought over by Chrysler’s Italian owner, Fiat SpA."  [Continue reading...]

2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Review

"There are battles, shouting matches, bragging rights and heated rivalries everywhere.  One place in particular is inside the automotive world and occurs between three similar but different camps.  The Big Three may be a grouping of the American car makers, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t animosity between them.  Due to this, a schism was created and for the most part, there is no real sign that the rip will be fixed anytime soon.  Here’s a truth: there are Ford F-Series owners, Dodge Ram owners and Chevrolet Silverado owners.  The recipe that created these three American workhorses is the same but to their respective fans, they couldn’t be anythin
g but different.  In order to find out why one group in particular sticks up for their love, we jumped behind the wheel of a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 to experience one of General Motor’s most shinning stars."  [Continue reading...]
